Products » Sintofoil Membrane Welded Field Seam Technology
Equipment
PRELIMINARY NOTESa) Correctly executed field seams are obtained by maintaining optimum relationship between temperature, speed and pressure. This combination is most consistently achieved by the use of automatic welding equipment. It is recommended that manual welding is limited to detail work or to jobs with specific conditions which prohibit the use of automatic equipment. b) Field experience has demonstrated that in most cases, best seam performance was obtained with the following settings
c) A 20mm safety margin is included in the minimum required width of the membrane overlap as indicated below. Such margin is recommended to avoid having unsufficient overlap due to sheet movement after initial alignment of the overlapping sheets. d) It is essential that the welding equipment is maintained in good working condition. |

2.1 AUTOMATIC WELDING MACHINES(E.G. Leister Twinny or similar) Field experience demonstrates that most outstanding results are achieved with this type of equipment. However, as both top and bottom membrane layers are pressed together while being heated, this type of equipment is suitable for loose-laid systems only. The recommended minimum width of the seam is:
Double weld equipment is used for liners, when pressure control is required. A 10 mm or 15 mm wide channel is left between the rollers. Welding is executed in one pass.

2.2 AUTOMATIC WELDING MACHINES(E.G. Leister Varimat or similar) This type of equipment is specially developed for mechanically attached systems but is also suitable for all other types of roofing and lining systems, provided the slope does not exceed 10%. The upper layer is applied on the bottom layer while being heated, then rolled.

2.3. HAND HELD WELDING TOOL(E.G. Leister Triac or similar)
It is important to apply pressure with the roller at the same time heat is applied and maintain a 45° angle for both tools.
The minimum recommended membrane overlap is:
